PALS COURSE INFORMATION
The PALS course is designed to provide pediatric healthcare providers with the knowledge and skills necessary to efficiently and effectively manage critically ill infants and children and help improve outcomes.

The PALS course covers:

  • recognition and treatment of infants and children at risk for cardiopulmonary arrest
  • the systematic approach to pediatric assessment
  • effective respiratory management
  • defibrillation and synchronized cardioversion
  • intraosseous access and fluid bolus administration
  • effective resuscitation team dynamics

PALS training is intended for professionals who must be credentialed as a requirement for doing their jobs, including:

  • pediatricians
  • emergency room, family, and other physicians
  • physician assistants
  • nurses and nurse practitioners
  • paramedics
  • respiratory therapists
  • other providers required to initiate and direct advanced life support in pediatric emergencies

Students must pass a written exam and skills test in order to qualify for a PALS Provider Course Completion Card.

Course length
The PALS Initial Certification Course is approximately 14 hours and completed in two days.
The PALS Update or Recert / Renewal Certification Course is approximately 6 hours and completed in one day.

PALS Provider Online Course

Convenient new alternative for completion of the American Heart Association™ PALS Provider Course. This course meets the criteria for any healthcare provider who is required to obtain or maintain certification in American Heart Association™ PALS. 

This Web-based, self-paced program uses eSimulation technology to allow students to assess and treat patients in virtual healthcare settings. In this environment, students apply their knowledge to real-time decision-making and skills development. Debriefings and coaching are provided immediately after each simulation to facilitate learning about pediatric advanced life support. A convenient alternative for taking the PALS course, this online course allows students to train at their own pace and on their own schedule. This course is based on the 2010 American Heart Association Guidelines for CPR and ECC
